MYSP Feature: Green Bay Fear

by on Oct.27, 2011, under News & Events

Made Ya Scream’s weekly feature for Saturday October 22, 2011, was with Green Bay Fear, located in our home town of Green Bay, Wisconsin.  We arrived and met up with Dave Oshefsky, the owner/operator of the haunted attraction in time to catch and be a part of their cast meeting.

GBF has the best outdoor area and RIP event.  Spooky fog laden trails filled with ghouls and frights lead the way to the attraction and RIP area.  Half way through you are offered a chance to upgrade to RIP.  If you choose to wait in the lines, don’t forget to check out the video games (“ScAIR Cannon”) and help startle GBF’s unwilling victims.  The ten dollar upgrade is worth skipping the lines and join others drinking hot chocolate, eating smores, sitting around a bonfire, listening to ‘Bonzai McPherson’ band.  Nothing like a camp fire, great music, and some drinks to set the mood.

The outside of the haunt has a spooky facade and combined with the foggy trail, creates an eerie atmosphere.  As you enter the haunt, you are handed 3d glasses in order to enjoy the haunts use of 3d paint effects.

The haunt itself underwent a complete renovation.  GBF is stating it’s a “brand new vortex of terror, darker, scarier, and way more evil than any haunted house you have ever known.”  I will let you, their victim, discover that for yourself.  The rooms were good with just the right amount of detailing.  The makeup and costumes on the cast were very nicely done as well as the unexpected scares.

The legend of GBF haunted attraction starts with a once glorious estate called Shawano Manor, previously located on the northern shores of Shawano Lake.

In the 1800′s, lumber Tycoon Jaden West spared no expense erecting his masterpiece.  It had all of the exclusive amenities only the wealthy could afford.  Mr. West unexpectedly met his demise in the fall of 1894.  His mutilated corpse found by his servant.  The death was blamed on jealous workers from the saw mill.  It was rumored that the mill workers didn’t think it was fair that Mr. West got all the spoils from their hard labor.

A local constable acquired the estate.  Legend has it, after the first night his jet black hair had been shocked ghost white and the constable went quite raving mad.  Local sanitarium records claimed he continued to carry on about the spirits of Green Bay Fear until he died; no amount of therapy could dissuade him from his delusions.

In 2000, ‘GBF’ was purchased by the state of Wisconsin for the purpose of restoring the northern shore wetlands.  Working with the salvage company, GBF was relocated to the corner of Taylor and Bond Street in Green Bay, Wisconsin.  If you are brave enough, you to can see some of the recreated atrocities of many years ago.  There are many unexplained happenings at ‘Green Bay Fear’.

MYSP would like to thank Dave and crew for having us and allowing us to experience the ‘unexplained happenings’ at GBF.  Regular admission is $15.  We would recommended upgrading to RIP, $10 more, to skip the lines and enjoy the outdoor entertainment before entering the haunted attraction.  If you are in the area, make sure you stop on by and experience the thrills and scares for yourself.
